Politics, Philosophy, Economics. Each a colossal discipline in its own right and you want to do all three? Why? The interdisciplinary elements of this course open new avenues of exploration. Take a crucial issue today such as immigration. Obama has recently spoken out against Republicans in the House of Representatives on an immigration bill, calling it ‘just politics, plain and simple’, but of course, the president’s rhetoric belies the complexity of the issue. Beside the politics, how else can you understand immigration? Why not have a read of this essay on ‘The Philosophy of Immigration’ published in 1986. What do you think of it? How might recent events have changed our philosophy since then? And when it comes to Economics, only this week thousands of protesters gathered in Hong Kong complaining that immigration is responsible for rising inequality and economic woes.
