Experience:

As a professional private tutor & educational consultant since June 2014, I have over 2,000 hours tuition experience, both in London and further afield. I have been a residential tutor in Mumbai, Moscow, St Moritz and Menorca for up to three months at a time. As well as tuition, I have taught classes in secondary schools in London, marked scripts, edited personal statements and written reports.  I have helped three students to move up a year in school by putting together reports on their levels and progression in relation to the syllabus. I also tutor regularly via Skype, which has been convenient and effective for students travelling or based abroad. This has been wonderful for encouraging students to explain clearly and effectively their reasoning and thought processes.

About me:

I studied at St Joseph’s Secondary School, where I achieved five A*s in chemistry, physics, biology, French and Irish, and one A in Mathematics.

After that, I read Part I Medicine at Cambridge and Parts I and II Philosophy. The one-on-one supervision system at Cambridge is the basis for my tutoring style. I find it very important to give my students the tools to deal with a whole range of questions, subjects and exams, rather than giving them answers to learn off and regurgitate. I also give detailed notes and material, a comprehensive homework and study plan, and thought-through feedback after each lesson.

Interests

I am extremely interested in Art and culture in general. I am in the midst of writing a novel, as literature is a particular passion of mine.

Ballet was my first love, and still holds a dear place in my heart. I was a keen dancer before university and completed the Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate vocational exam.

I am very interested in music (mainly jazz and classical) and I am the lead singer in two bands.

I have directed, choreographed and acted in many pieces of amateur and semi-professional theatre in Cambridge, London and Edinburgh.

Testimonials:

“Jessica could have done little more to impress me from the outset .The entire experience could not have been more positive. Jessica is flexible and resourceful, moving residence 4 times in one month, she made the best of every situation. She is curious, appreciative and has a great spirit. We all really enjoyed her being part of the family. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her to any family.”

“Jessica magically struck the balance between friend and tutor and my daughter almost begs for a lesson with her. She has handled tears of failure and exhaustion and turned this into determination and a real desire to do better. My daughter did not wane through a very intense period of study with Jessica where she had school work in parallel. While I would like to say this is the character of the child, Jessica is in great part the reason for her success in balancing her time and emotions at this high pressure time.”

‘My son’s scores in practice tests have improved dramatically under Jessica’s tuition. In English comprehension, he went from a 20% score initially to over 80% consistently now. In most subjects and papers, scores were consistently above 90% by the time of the exams. Naturally, we were all thrilled.”

“Jessica also taught my son who is 7 years old and inspired him in reading, writing, mathematics and other subjects. He was equally enraptured with Jessica’s approach to teaching and asked for a daily lesson. His skills improved dramatically during her time here.”

“Jessica researched the curriculum of every school, details of each examination, school admission process and details of weighting. This was an amazing resource and we discovered so much about the process that was not initially obvious; such as the timing, order and date of the pre-tests could be decided by the candidate, rather than sitting all in one session.”
