I started teaching Mathematics, Physics and Science to my classmates and a family member while I was in high school. I became a Teaching Assistant during my time as an undergraduate, and have been teaching regularly ever since. I am now a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Imperial College, alongside studying for a PhD in Mathematics, and have received a prize from the college for teaching.
My approach to tutoring
My approach varies to suit the needs of each student. I am always well prepared, and I ask myself any question that a student might ask. My primary method is to encourage the student to think for themselves. I help them to be confident and to practise logical thought so they are able to understand the subject deeply. Only in this way can they solve exam questions and tackle new and unfamiliar problems. I give them examples and lots of exam-style and past paper questions that they can answer themselves with my supervision. I always start with an interesting topic to attract their attention. I never lecture students.
I attended high school in Iran, and I was admitted to the best school of Mathematics in Iran at Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. I finished my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics. I won a scholarship from Imperial College London to start my Ph.D. in 2014. I joined Dukes Education in summer 2015, and it has been a great experience.
I am passionate about science and knowledge in general. There are so many questions to which I would like to find answers. I also love helping other people, especially with their education. I have encouraged and helped my friends and family members to gain admission to prestigious universities. I can motivate people to find their way and seek their dreams. I love tutoring because it allows me to open up others’ potential and develop their skills
Hobbies and interests outside of tutoring
Besides research on my thesis, I am a CFM-Imperial Institute of Quantitative Finance Ph.D. Fellow, finance rep at Imperial SIAM committee and a student member of different research institutions and societies. I have a black belt in Karate. I watch science shows and documentaries, and I follow science and technology news daily. I am interested in History, Philosophy, Anthropology and I love Maths puzzles, especially the Rubik's Cube!
